Brandon Travel Guide
Welcome to Brandon!
Brandon, located about 50 mi (83 km) south of Burlington in western Vermont, was charted in 1761 and quickly became a destination town in its own right, first as an important iron-milling town and later as a manufacturing center for rail cars when the railroad was established. Today, Brandon has left its industrial past behind and is a vibrant blend of fine art, culture and recreation. Over 240 buildings in the village are on the National Register of Historic Places and visitors can take a self-guided tour that leads walkers past several examples of early American architecture, including stately homes from the 1800s which line the village’s broad avenues. Many artists also make this part of Vermont home and there are numerous ways to experience the area’s creativity and artistry. The Brandon Artists Guild Gallery along with several others are located in the center of town while musical entertainment can be found at its summer concert series and the annual Basin Bluegrass Festival.Lake Dunmore and Branbury State Park–just 9 mi (15 km) from Brandon–is a popular destination for swimming, camping, boating and kayaking while the huge Moosalamoo National Recreation Area features over 70 mi (117 km) of hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails in the Green Mountain National Forest. Brandon’s central location also means alpine skiing and snowboarding are never far away and the resorts of Killington, Sugarbush and Mad River Glen are all nearby.
