Founded in 1828, the Johnson State College was previously known as the Lamoille County Grammar School, Johnson Normal School and the Johnson State Teachers College. Today the college offers a contemporary learning atmosphere and a number of degrees in a variety of disciplines, including behavioral sciences, education, fine arts and outdoor education.

This accredited college began as Saint Joseph College in 1926, but in 1974 it became a private college with no religious affiliation.
